Our journey kicks off at 7:00 am at our designated meeting spot, Magic Bean. From this point, we'll head south of Quito for roughly 2 hours and 30 minutes to explore Saquisilí on Thursdays, Zumbahua on Saturdays, and Pujilí on Sundays. Each of these towns boasts vibrant local artisan markets worth visiting.
The town of Saquisilí is renowned for its expansive market held across eight plazas. Here, you can discover a variety of items such as cookware, electronic gadgets, herbal remedies, as well as livestock and agricultural products.
Zumbahua, nestled in the Ecuadorian Andes, offers a market filled with native artwork, textiles, ceramics, leather goods, and fresh produce. This is a perfect opportunity to immerse yourself in the culture and daily life of the locals.
The town of Pujilí is famous for its Sunday market, featuring pottery, ceramics, and a wide array of fruits and vegetables, with a special emphasis on its textiles.
After exploring one of these markets, we'll proceed towards Quilotoa. We will embark on a walking tour leading us to a stunning emerald lagoon nestled within a volcanic crater at an altitude of 3,800 meters, known as Quilotoa. The lagoon features springs, visible from the shore as bubbling trails ascending to the surface. Throughout the tour, we'll enjoy breathtaking viewpoints and capture the most stunning photographs of this magnificent landscape.Later, we'll visit Shalala, a community celebrated for its craftsmanship, where our guide will provide insights into the significance of this area. Following this, we'll have a lunch break before heading to the Tigua indigenous community. This is a birthplace for artists who depict indigenous life in the Andean highlands on sheepskin canvases.
