Our journey to the Cotopaxi volcano provides an opportunity to explore Ecuador's coastal region. You'll be captivated by its stunning natural landscapes and the unique crafts created by the indigenous communities.
Throughout the tour, you'll traverse a section of the Avenue of the Volcanoes, home to over 70 volcanoes within a span of less than 300 kilometers. This includes a visit to the museum and interpretation center.
Moreover, the itinerary includes a stop at Cotopaxi National Park, a protected area surrounding the volcano that offers visitors a variety of activities. This particular excursion features a hike to the glacier and a thrilling bike ride to the Cotopaxi volcano and the Limpiopungo lagoon.

The adventure begins at 7:00 am from our designated meeting point in the San Blas district. We will embark on a journey of approximately 2.5 hours, traveling along the renowned Avenue of the Volcanoes. This scenic route offers breathtaking views of the Andes Mountains and leads us to various natural wonders, culminating at the Cotopaxi National Park.
Upon arrival at the park, you'll have the opportunity to purchase handcrafted items made by local indigenous artisans, including ponchos and sweaters to help ward off the chilly temperatures of the volcano. As we make our way towards the volcano, we will stop at various points to acclimate to the high-altitude climate. Our path leads us to a parking area from where we will take a short walk to a mountain refuge. Here, you can enjoy a hearty breakfast and take a moment to relax.
Following breakfast, we will embark on a two-hour hike reaching up to 5,000 meters to witness the majestic glacier at the base of Cotopaxi volcano, the second highest peak in Ecuador. Throughout this trek, our guides will share fascinating insights about the volcano's significance, its most recent eruption, and the unique flora and fauna found in the area.
After our hike, we return to the refuge for a box lunch. Here, our guides will offer a brief orientation on the thrilling descent we will undertake by bicycle. We will then begin a two-hour bike descent, concluding at the picturesque Limpiopungo Lagoon, where we will enjoy a guided walk around its stunning perimeter.
Finally, we will visit the museum and interpretation center, where you can explore the diverse Andean flora, engage in bird watching, and soak in the incredible landscape. Our journey concludes with a return to Quito around 4:00 pm.
